Full STEAM Forward Educator
Full STEAM Forward (FSF) is an out of school enrichment program providing fully funded, virtual STEAM learning for young self-identifying girls of color. FSF is designed to inspire girls to love science and to equip them with an understanding of the sciences and their uses.
The program is for girls in 3rd-5th grades and covers a broad range of scientific fields including: biology, oceanography, anthropology, astronomy, and earth science. For additional details on FSF please see www.FullSTEAMForward.org.
Job Description
The FSF Educator will implement provided science curricula in a virtual learning environment. The FSF educator and students receive materials at the beginning of every session to utilize during each class. Classes incorporate a range of STEAM projects, rooted in children’s literature, such as carrying out investigations, creating models, and designing solutions to problems. The FSF Educator will apply relevant science teaching philosophies to support the students in developing a sustained interest in the sciences. Classes are taught alongside other FSF educators and student mentors.
This is a predominantly remote part-time position, with occasional in-person meetings throughout the year. Hours are typically after-school during the school year, with potential hours in the summer. This position will require a minimum of 4 hours per week during the school year.

Responsibilities

Teach virtual science classes using provided materials and curricula.

Co-teach with other FSF educators at times.

Prepare for classes by reviewing lesson plans and testing science activities in advance.

Suggest curricular modifications to program directors for future implementation.

Coach FSF mentors who will assist in the implementation of classes.

Assess student learning through provided formal and informal evaluation tools.

Engage in reflective practices and participate in internal staff development sessions.

Collaborate with Family Engagement Coordinator to communicate with families and support
student learning goals.

Create engaging and welcoming virtual classroom learning environments.

Co-facilitate occasional in-person experiences after school or on weekends.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in elementary education, science education, or related field.

Teaching certification in elementary education, science education, or related field.

2+ years of teaching at the early or elementary level, online teaching experience preferred.

Knowledge of elementary science standards and best teaching practices in science.

Ability to learn or operate educational technology such as Zoom, G-Suite, and Remind.

Fluency in English. Fluency in Spanish a plus.

Residency in NYC, Philadelphia or D.C. preferred.
